The Scheller College of Business at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia is seeking a Research Associate level I or II, with a principal focus on privacy and cybersecurity.  This position will work with Professor Peter Swire, who was named an Andrew Carnegie Fellow ’18 for a two-year research project on “Protecting Human Rights and National Security in the New Era of Data Nationalism.”  Previously Professor Swire was the White House Chief Counselor for Privacy and served on President Obama’s Review Group on Intelligence and Communications Technology.

The focus of this research faculty position is on research and writing at the intersection of law, policy, and technology.  Principal tasks include: research and writing for the first draft of papers or books, conducting literature reviews, and finding relevant citations. The selected candidate may support overall research efforts such as web page content and maintenance as well as managerial assistance with conferences and speakers.  The position may also serve as a research or teaching assistant for privacy and cybersecurity classes.

A Juris Doctor (J.D.) is the preferred degree and candidates with the minimum of a Bachelor’s degree will be considered.  Applicants with zero to three years of experience will likely be considered for Research Associate I and applicants with four to eight years will likely be considered for Research Associate II. Applicants with graduate training in a subject relevant to information technology, privacy, and security will be considered. All candidates should have a keen interest in the subject matter of privacy and cybersecurity.  Ability to work in the Atlanta, Georgia area during the week is expected.  The salary is competitive with leading research universities, and will be based on the candidate’s skills and experience. This position will be funded for at least two years.  Continuation in the role after this period will be based on performance and funding availability.

This opportunity will be housed in the Law and Ethics group in the College, where we currently have five research-active faculty, two lecturers, and one other Research Associate.  This position will also coordinate closely with the Georgia Tech Institute for Information Security and Privacy, a globally prominent center for cybersecurity research, and with other Colleges of the Institute as needed.
