OVERVIEW OF ROLE

AMC Networks Inc. is looking for an Associate Counsel to support AMC Studios.  This person will play an integral part of the AMC Networks Legal team’s effort to support all of our production efforts.  The ideal candidate will be a clear, confident communicator with a strong sense of judgment and the ability to negotiate tactfully with outside partners.   This person will possess a strong attention to detail and the ability to analyze and organize all legal documents. They will advise the AMC Studio team to ensure compliance with cast, crew, music, and guild requirements and restrictions.  This person will report to the SVP, Legal & Business Affairs.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and negotiate Underlying Rights Agreements
  • Draft and negotiate Production Services Agreements (particularly the “enhanced” ones we now enter into w/foreign studios e.g. Consumed, The Clinic)
  • Draft and negotiate misc. agreements relating to productions (e.g.  Casting director, Prop/set auction agreement, independent contractors, stock footage library agreements)
  • Draft and negotiate “Faux-Co-Production” Agreements with non-U.S. production companies & distributors –
  • Advise distribution business (AMC Studios International Ltd) regarding rights for new product acquisitions and new wholly owned programming
  • Draft certain Domestic/Canadian distribution agreements (i.e. “licensing out”)
  • Draft Amendments as needed for the larger over-arching distribution agreements like Netflix, Hulu– which require constant maintenance, individual content waivers and amendments adding specific additional content and new/separate terms

Qualifications

  • J.D. and strong academic credentials required
  • Member of NY or CA Bar in good standing
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience, including experience at a law firm and ideally also at an in-house legal or business affairs department of a digital/OTT programming service, network, production company, cable programming service, studio or comparable media company
  • Familiarity with digital/OTT content distribution platforms, and TV development, production and distribution preferred
  • Excellent negotiating, drafting, analytical and communication skills (written and oral), and ability to work with others within group and across divisions
  • Very strong attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through and meet deadlines
  • Eagerness and ability to learn and retain new substantive matters quickly
  • Ability to juggle a high-volume work flow and adapt to shifting priorities
  • Strong analytical and computer skills
