Facebook is seeking a talented and flexible Privacy Counsel to assist in a range of privacy-related programs and initiatives. This is a full-time position and is located in our Menlo Park, CA headquarters or our Washington, DC office. The role is broad and involves advising internal clients on the various legal risks, obligations, and other issues related to privacy. We are looking for someone who is diligent, proactive, practical, and has demonstrated excellent legal and business judgment and strategic thinking. Candidates should work well in teams and demonstrate the ability to work independently.

 

Responsibilities 

  • -- Provide strategic legal and privacy advice to key business and policy team partners.
  • -- Develop and maintain user-facing and public-facing terms and policies (e.g. connected to various products and services).
  • -- Provide support to other members of the legal and business teams on privacy matters, including in areas related to partnerships, acquisitions, integrations, and other business development opportunities.
  • -- Evaluate the impact of legislative, regulatory, and industry proposals.
  • -- Assist in the development and management of Facebook's terms and policies (especially including the terms, privacy policy and cookies policy).
  • -- Manage internal compliance programs and processes to ensure we meet our obligations under those programs.
  • -- Interface with internal partners and clients regarding Facebook products, policies, practices, and guidelines.
  • -- Collaborate with product lawyers and other teams to evaluate new and existing products and features to ensure compliance with privacy laws and guidelines.
  • -- Respond to questions and inquiries from external interests on privacy and other regulatory matters.

 

 Requirements

  • -- J.D. degree and membership in at least one state bar
  • -- 5+ years of experience, including prior in-house experience with internet or technology companies and/or at a top tier law firm
  • -- Direct experience applying U.S. and European privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, especially including those relevant for social media and Internet companies
  • -- Direct experience evaluating privacy impacts relating to acquisitions, partnerships and commercial deals, and updates to internal and external policies and compliance programs
  • -- Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced environment and provide advice under tight deadlines
  • -- Ability and willingness to travel, including to our Menlo Park headquarters, as needed
  • -- Talent for thinking creatively in confronting new issues and pursuing novel approaches to old problems
  • -- Candidates must be flexible and willing to work on projects in other areas from time to time, be team players, and have a great sense of humor.
