The Social Impact Lab (SIMLab), lowers the barriers to social change using mobile technologies. We work with organizations all over the world to make effective use of emerging technologies to increase the efficiency, reach, and accessibility of vital goods, services, and information. We built and support FrontlineSMS and FrontlineCloud, our SMS management platforms, and conduct research about the management of data.

The Project Director is SIMLab’s dedicated lead for our :Legal Project, with responsibility for delivering projects, extending networks, and advancing our understanding of the ways that mobile technologies can be used to improve legal and dispute resolution services around the world. The Project Director reports to the CEO, and works in conjunction with the rest of the SIMLab team to support the strategic development and coordination of all projects and operations.

:Legal Project Management:

  •  Manage the timely design and product management of :Legal products, extensions and related materials;
  • In consultation with the CEO of our social enterprise, identify and secure fundraising and income generation opportunities in the mobile legal services sector;
  • Responsible for the accomplishment of project milestones, donor reporting, and relationship management of :Legal projects. These outputs must be delivered in a timely manner and may involve the coordination (and support) of additional SIMLab staff;
  • Ensure the design and implementation of proof-of-concept and pilot projects, supporting local partners and documenting the outcomes;
  • Recruit, manage, and develop the capacity of the :Legal Project Manager;
  • Lead on outreach to the wider sector, including the development of user resources and building up best practice knowledge about the use of FrontlineSMS, FrontlineCloud, SMS and other mobile technologies where :Legal-related functionality is locally appropriate;
  • Represent SIMLab and the :Legal Project in publications, at events, and in other capacities as required by the CEO;
  • Ensure that the project is compliant at all times with relevant law and regulations

SIMLab Team Responsibilities:

  •  Support other members of the SIMLab team, including but not limited to consulting projects, business development materials, attendant benchmark reports, billing schedules and communications;
  • Uphold and embody our corporate values;
  • Undertake other duties reasonably requested by the CEO

 

Person Specification

ESSENTIAL

  • Experience with or demonstrated understanding of developing world legal services, legal service provision, and dispute resolution;
  • A post graduate degree in law or related field;
  • Experience with advocacy networks, intake and referral systems, and/or legal aid providers;
  • ONE OR MORE of the following: Experience in for-profit consulting and/or client services, international development programs, and/or technology product development
  • A clearly demonstrated understanding of legal communications;
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills;
  • Strong public speaking skills;
  • Strong administration skills; accurate, organized, and punctual;
  • Enjoys working within a diverse team and able to work with a distributed network of users, partners, and stakeholders;
  • Ability to juggle a complex workload, prioritise duties, and meeting deadlines;
  • Proven ability to self-motivate, even while working independently, communicating remotely with colleagues, primarily using email, calls and social media;
  • Strong work ethic with an interest in working for a start-up, recognizing the time, structure, and stage-of-growth implications involved, with the proven opportunity to drive positive social change; and
  • Experience with international travel and working in a diverse range of contexts.

DESIRABLE

  • Experience in business modelling and development
  • A terminal degree in law or related field
  • Strong networks and relationships in the legal, social entrepreneurship, impact investment, and/or software-as-a-service spaces
  • Negotiation skills / contract management
  • Proficiency in multiple languages
  • Understanding of data science
