Description
Cengage Learning is currently seeking a self-motivated law student to learn and expand his/her knowledge of Intellectual Property, (IP) Law. The Legal Intern will work closely with in-house intellectual property counsel in fair use analysis for rich media assets, and draft and negotiate license agreements for rich media assets.
The position is part-time (10-15 hours/week) with the option of a paid internship or classroom credit.
The candidate will have the option of working in the Boston office with the corporate legal department, or from home.
The Role Will Involve
-- Researching rights holders
-- Reaching out to rights holders to acquire reproduction and distribution permissions for media assets
-- Negotiate rights and fees.
-- Draft and review license agreements.
-- Advise product development clients on accepting terms offered by rights holders.
-- Support the IP team to record all rights and ensure ease of repermissioning.
-- Advising on compliance with publicity laws, including drafting and modifying model and performance release documents
-- Provides guidance to product development clients in making “smart media decisions”.
-- Reviews other contracts as requested by intellectual property Counsel
Required Skills
-- Four year college degree in addition to active enrollment in 2nd or 3rd year law student for academic year 2014/15.
-- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-- Strong PC skills and experience with Internet research.
-- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
-- Prior coursework or experience in Copyright and/or Intellectual Property.
-- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.
-- Negotiation skills a plus.
