The Future Talent Program features internships that last 10-12 weeks.  For the 2019 program, students who accept the internship positions are responsible for housing costs.

The Intellectual Property team is within the Office of General Counsel organization. The Office of General Counsel is responsible for helping Merck succeed in a manner that is responsible and consistent with the company’s values and high ethical standards, complies with the law, and protects and enhances our reputation and other assets. Intellectual property protection has been a crucial incentive for scientific discovery that has brought forth vitally important medicines in use today.

One internship position is available in 2019 in the Intellectual Property group based at our Rahway, NJ site. During your internship appointment you will work closely with experienced IP attorneys on a research project with key tasks that may include the following:

  • Students will participate in filing and prosecution of patent application(s) before the USPTO
  • Students will assist in case management and attorney dockets
  • The relationship of this work to the intellectual property and drug development processes employed by the pharmaceutical industry will be explored with exposure to different functional areas within the Company
  • Students will analyze patent filing strategies in relation to recent regulatory developments and combination products

 

Qualifications:

  • Must have an Undergraduate, Masters, or Ph.D. degree in a science or engineering field and should be a current Law student pursuing a J.D. degree
  • Should be a team player with ability to work independently
