THE ROLE:  Content & Production Counsel

Position is responsible for providing legal counsel in the areas of pre-broadcast review, intellectual property; 1st Amendment; causes of action common in entertainment and media industry cases, including privacy, defamation; to perform legal analysis, risk assessment, issue spotting, and ongoing support of A+E Networks.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Pre-Broadcast and Production Counseling
    Support Content and Risk team in advising network and studio executives on legal risk and viability of program concepts, program content and marketing campaigns, working closely with creative teams to find solutions to legal and other impediments to program concepts.
  • IP and Litigation Advice and Support
    Provide support to Intellectual Property and Litigation teams with legal analysis and practical support in all areas, including Trademark and Copyright filings and enforcement of IP rights and defense claims.
  • Risk Management and Insurance Advice
    Help manage relationships with brokers and insurers for all lines of coverage relating to content in all media, including working with supervisor to determine levels of coverage and approve carriers and policies; help manage insurance claims and resolve coverage issues.
  • General Legal Advice
    Analyze legal and other risk factors and counsel clients in connection with longer-range projects and urgent and emergency matters where legal, reputational, or safety and security risks need to be evaluated.

YOUR STORY:

  • You are a member in good standing of the NYS Bar Association, which means you are a lawyer
  • You have 5-7 years of legal practice with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in media law
  • You have expertise in pre-broadcast review…yes, you will watch a lot of TV
  • You have demonstrated an ability to play nice in the sandbox
  • Your social life is not too demanding as there are a number of weekend nights you will work
  • You can tactfully and cheerfully take charge of the TV remote and have a point-of-view about which series to binge watch
  • Your dream tattoo reads: “Anything worth doing is worth doing right,” especially under tight deadlines
  • You’re a sleeve roller-upper who owns projects from end-to-end
  • While you need to have a law degree you also need a 4-year college education, they usually go hand-in-hand
