Job Description:

The Privacy / Commercial Law Attorney works closely with colleagues in the Law Department and with various business and functional units on a broad range of privacy and commercial law matters. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Designing and implementing enhancements to the company's global privacy program, including data protection and data security.
  • Providing guidance on company privacy policies and procedures.
  • Advising on and negotiating privacy and data protection terms and conditions in agreements and other legal documents.
  • Assisting with investigating, monitoring, auditing and managing data breaches and other related compliance controls.
  • Advising business clients on the legal aspects of developing technology (e.g., mobile apps, social media, cloud computing).
  • Providing legal support to business clients with emphasis on technology and product development.
  • Performing general commercial legal work, including litigation management, contract drafting and addressing customer disputes.

Educational Requirements:

J.D. with strong academic credentials. Required to be admitted to the bar and in good standing in Florida, or admitted to the bar and in good standing in another state and eligible for limited licensure of in-house counsel in Florida.

Work Experience:

  • 8 years of legal experience, to include substantial privacy experience, supporting a robust global privacy program within a corporate, law firm, or government environment.
  • Substantive knowledge and experience developing, implementing, and maintaining corporate privacy policies, procedures, infrastructures, and practices.
  • Experience investigating and responding to data breach incidents.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and state privacy laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Strong leadership skills, including, ability to interface at multiple levels of the organization.Previous experience in EU Safe Harbor compliance.
  • Previous experience in cybersecurity matters facing a multi-national corporation, including technical understanding of IT environments.

  • The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to work well as part of a team and possess outstanding interpersonal skills and judgment.
  • Must also possess discipline to independently follow up on matters.
  • Must be well organized, detail oriented, and able to manage numerous projects and conflicting demands in a fast paced environment.
  • The ability to cooperatively work with Hertz’s management, attorneys and staff, as well as, outside counsel.
  • Good business judgment, problem solving skills, and a strong work ethic required.
