Description

The NYU Technology Law and Policy Clinic seeks to appoint a Teaching Fellow for a two-year term, with the potential for a third year. The Clinic, directed by Professor Jason Schultz and co-taught with attorneys from the ACLU’s Speech, Privacy, and Technology Project, focuses on the representation of individuals, nonprofits, and consumer groups who are engaged with legal and policy issues at the intersection of technology and social, economic, and political change—from access to information and data discrimination to national security, privacy, and intellectual property.

For more on the Clinic, see  http://www.law.nyu.edu/academics/clinics/semester/technologylawandpolicy.

The Technology Law and Policy Teaching Fellow will serve as both a staff attorney and a teaching fellow in the Clinic. The Fellow will work on case matters, supervise students, and participate in teaching the clinic seminar. The Fellowship will begin in August of 2016.

The Fellowship is an opportunity to develop a career in public interest advocacy and/or clinical teaching in areas related to technology law and policy. The Fellow will receive support for research and professional development. The Fellow will also have the opportunity to participate in the activities of the Engelberg Center for Innovation Law and Policy and Information Law Institute’s Privacy Research Group. Past Fellows have proceeded to positions as public interest lawyers and clinical professors as well as in-house positions with government agencies and private technology firms. The Fellowship offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits.

Qualifications: Applicants should have a minimum of two to five years of practice experience and a demonstrated interest in law & technology practice and/or policy work. Ideally, a Fellow would have experience in one or more areas such as intellectual property, privacy and surveillance, free expression and the First Amendment, information security or other related areas of law; would have experience supervising students or new lawyers; and would have experience working with grassroots organizations or coalitions. Applicants should be eligible for or admitted to the NY State Bar.

Applications: Applicants should submit a one-page statement explaining their interest in the position together with a resume, transcript, writing sample, and three references to Nicole Arzt at nicole.arzt@nyu.edu. Applications should be submitted by March 1, 2016.

NYU is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
