International Policy Assistant (IPA) -- Public Knowledge seeks a full-time International Policy Assistant to report to the Vice President of International Policy and the President.

The International Policy Assistant is responsible for tracking Internet governance-related issues and debates at the global level, as well as handling administrative tasks as detailed below and engaging with the government and non-profit sectors in a diversity of events. It is also part of the IPA’s functions to assist the President and Vice President in developing and maintaining their advocacy training materials, including the Open Internet Course and Advocacy Toolkit.

Essential Duties

  • -- Provide administrative support to the President and CEO, including managing timesheet and calendar, filing reimbursements, addressing benefits concerns and reimbursements, and organizing and booking domestic and international travel-related needs, including logistic and other needs. Sensitivity to confidential matters may be required;
  • -- Plan, organize, and hold meetings, conference calls, and webinars with advocates, experts, and other stakeholders, often in different time zones;
  • -- Conduct research and gather documentation in order to compile comprehensive reports;
  • -- Assist in research and writing of background documents, press releases, blog posts, and other works related to issues of interest to the President and Vice President of International Policy;
  • -- Create advocacy-related materials for the public and other public interest organizations;
  • -- Develop workshop proposals and organize events for conferences domestically and abroad;
  • -- Represent Public Knowledge at meetings with NGOs, government, and business officials;
  • -- Provide basic technical and subject-area support for the Open Internet Course and other educational initiatives.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • -- Bachelor's degree required;
  • -- At least two years of experience relevant work experience in the areas of Internet freedom, Internet governance, human rights, legal education, political communication, Internet engineering, and/or new technologies, with increasing levels of responsibility;
  • -- Extreme attention to detail and strong Internet skills are required, with platforms such as Github and other common office software;
  • -- Project management skills preferred;
  • -- Excellent communication skills and proven ability to produce well-written policy briefs and media relations and public education materials;
  • -- Ability to work under short deadlines and to work in a team-focused environment;
  • -- Solid interest in human rights, Internet and technology policy, and cybersecurity, with a deeper knowledge in at least one of these areas preferred;
  • -- Strong English language research, writing, editing, and public speaking skills. Spanish language skills preferred;
  • -- Flexibility to deal with occassional priority changes and strong organizational skills to keep different projects moving at the same time;
  • -- Experience living, working, or studying abroad (or) a background in international affairs a plus.
