Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Political Science, Public Affairs or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12 years of experience in technology policy, particularly content and information issues, within government, think tanks, public interest groups, or industry associations.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with international teams and a variety of stakeholders, and in executing strategies and cross-functional projects to deliver exceptional solutions.
  • Ability to identify opportunities, develop and implement ideas independently, with the discipline to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of internet technologies and the policy and political environments that surround them.
  • Team player, respect for inclusion and collegiality, and ability to exercise good judgment in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Demonstrated analytical/research, and organizational skills, with the ability to identify/gather insights and communicate complex technology topics effectively.

As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you'll be part of a diverse global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions. You’ll combine creativity and intellectual rigor with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. In this role, you’ll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction. In this role, you will join Google’s Access to Information hub in the Government Affairs and Public Policy team. You'll be part of a diverse global government affairs team, working across geographies, product areas, and functions. We are a team of experts in charge of leading and developing Google's approach to Information Policy and Content Regulation across products. We are passionate advocates of future-looking public policy, and of the internet.

In this role, you will drive our work and advocate internally and externally for future-looking information and content public policy across the APAC region, and support our efforts across the globe on these critical topics. You're passionate about the Internet and the opportunity to shape the future of online content and information policy, and how we use and build technology for everyone.

Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with colleagues in the global government affairs and public policy team, business and product organizations, including Legal, Trust & Safety, PR, Product and Engineering colleagues, you will help develop and execute our policy strategy, and craft our external narrative around information and content policy challenges.
  • Advise other teams across Google through the public policy lens and the local perspectives from the APAC region to guide the company regarding information policy and content regulation across products and platforms.
  • Engage directly with policymakers, industry players, and key opinion formers to shape policy and political dialogue.
  • Monitor and research current and relevant emerging public policy issues; and develop position papers and programs to anticipate and shape public policy and the public debate regarding access to information, online content, and content regulation.
