Description

Seeking to fill newly created clinical law professor position by January 1, 2015.

Indiana University Maurer School of Law (Bloomington) invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the school’s new intellectual property law clinic, a part of the Center for Intellectual Property Research. The Center for Intellectual Property Research oversees the law school’s intellectual property teaching mission, its co-curricular activities, its research in intellectual property and related areas, and its outreach to the practice, the academy, and the state. Nearly thirty faculty, adjunct faculty, instructors, and affiliated faculty and researchers are associated with the Center.

The faculty appointment will be at the rank of clinical associate professor (with the opportunity for a later promotion to full rank) or at the full rank of clinical professor, depending upon the candidate’s background and prior teaching experience. Alternatively, a visiting appointment may be considered. This is a renewable contract position, consistent with the law school’s policies on appointment and promotion of non-tenure track faculty.

The clinical faculty member will have responsibility for teaching the classroom component of the clinic and managing the clinic’s client service operations. The faculty member will assist in implementing a partnership with the school’s existing Elmore Entrepreneurship Law Clinic. The faculty member will also assist in building on the Center’s existing public- and private-sector partnerships with a number of entities throughout Indiana. It is anticipated that the faculty member will directly supervise the patent work of the clinic (including the filing of patent applications and other related correspondence with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office), and will oversee the clinic’s trademark work. The clinic is certified under the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Law School Clinic Certification Pilot Program for both patent and trademark law, and the faculty member will have responsibility for managing the clinic’s continued participation in that program.
