Qualifications:
Eastman Chemical Company is seeking a rising second or third year law student to intern with our Intellectual Property Practice Group headquartered in Kingsport, Tennessee for summer 2015.

  • This individualized ten week program will provide experience in the preparation and prosecution of domestic and foreign patent applications, client counseling, opinion work, and basic transactional IP agreements.
  • Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, writing sample, law school and undergraduate transcripts.
  • Those with a graduate degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering are highly preferred, although students qualified to sit for the patent bar having undergraduate degrees with sufficient coursework in Chemistry, Physics, or Material Science will also be considered.
  • Individuals licensed to practice before the USPTO are encouraged to apply.
  • Excellent academic credentials, writing, and communication skills are required.

You will receive a competitive pay rate based on your college education level, paid company holidays, one (1) personal
holiday during the calendar year, and eight (8) hours of vacation per calendar year. Do you want “hassle free” apartment housing while completing your internship? Eastman provides a furnished apartment including utilities for your use (student pays partial cost of $90 per week to Eastman). Just pick up the apartment key and
move in your personal belongings – it is that easy! Eastman strives to broaden the internship experience for students. Students in our program participate in plant tours and volunteer activities. They can become involved with our “Eastman Professional Development Club.” Your internship assignment will provide personal growth and enhance your overall learning experience

Intern Benefits
Salary:Established wage rates will be competitive with industry rates. These rates are reviewed periodically to ensure equity. Interns will be paid biweekly during the work session.

Vacation: Interns will receive 8 hours of vacation per calendar year. Vacation can be carried over into the next calendar year subject to the carryover limit, but must be used by March 31. Unused vacation will be cashed out at the end of employment, in accordance with the vacation carryover policy.

Holidays: Interns and other Eastman employees receive scheduled holidays and one (1) personal holiday each year.
Currently, there are ten (10) scheduled holidays during the calendar year. Should the intern be scheduled to work during
a holiday, a special holiday allowance will be paid in addition to regular pay.

Work Schedule: Interns normally work eight hours per day, Monday through Friday. Some may be required to work special shifts to meet the requirements of a particular assignment. If so, these interns will receive a shift differential. In some areas, interns
may arrange with their supervisor to work an alternative work schedule, working nine hours four days a week, and then
four hours on the work day of their choice.

Housing: Kingsport interns are typically housed with another student at Cross Creek Apartments or a similar local apartment complex in two-bedroom units. Housing is $90/week paid in monthly payments. The apartments include furniture (dining area table, sofa, beds, dresser), major appliances, and utilities (i.e. electric and water).

Travel Pay: Interns are reimbursed for normal travel expenses to and from school (round-trip mileage reimbursement).

Service Reinstatement: If the intern joins Eastman, credit will be given for work term(s) completed at Eastman.

Credit Union Privileges: Interns are eligible to obtain savings and checking accounts through the Eastman Credit Union.

Fitness Center Privileges/Recreational Opportunities: Interns are eligible to take advantage of the free on-site fitness facilities and recreational opportunities offered by the company
