Description

This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program that is designed to attract students with paid opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school.

The FTC, Bureau of Consumer Protection is now hiring second year law students for its 2016 Summer Honors Legal Internship Program. We are looking for highly motivated law students with an interest in working with the following divisions: Marketing Practices, Advertising Practices, Financial Practices, Enforcement, and Privacy and Identity Protection.

DUTIES:

We offer substantive legal work that gives interns an opportunity to demonstrate their writing, analytical, and advocacy skills. The small size of the program enables interns to be fully integrated onto investigative teams and take on meaningful assignments with significant responsibility. Assignments may include: drafting pleadings, discovery requests and responses; appearing at hearings and depositions with Bureau of Consumer Protection attorneys; attending meetings with parties and their outside counsel; leading interview calls and summarizing findings through written reports; reviewing documents; and researching a wide range of legal issues.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

-- Students graduating in the Spring of 2016 are not eligible.
-- If selected, official transcripts must be submitted prior to establishing a start date.

THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS MUST BE SUBMITTED ALONG WITH YOUR RESUME AND ARE REQUIRED AS PART OF YOUR APPLICATION.

-- Copy of law school transcript (unofficial transcripts will be accepted with your application package; however, official transcripts will be required before your start date).

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Your responses to the questionnaire will be used to evaluate your relevant personal, educational, and work experiences.

Qualified applicants eligible for veteran's preference will be referred and considered ahead of non-veterans. Veterans' Preference: Preference eligibles with a compensable service-connected disability of 10 percent or more (CPS, CP) are placed at the top of the referral list. XP and TP preference eligibles are placed above non-preference eligibles. For more information on entitlement go to: http://www.fedshirevets.gov/job/vetpref/index.aspx
