The Scheller College of Business at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia is seeking a Research Associate level I or II (both are non-tenure track faculty positions), with a principal focus on privacy and cybersecurity.  This position will work with Professor Peter Swire, who among other activities is Research Director of the Cross-Border Data Forum.  Previously Professor Swire was the White House Chief Counselor for Privacy and served on President Obama’s Review Group on Intelligence and Communications Technology.

 The focus of this research faculty position is on research and writing at the intersection of law, policy, and technology.  Principal tasks include: research and writing for drafts of papers or books, conducting literature reviews, and finding relevant citations. The selected candidate may support overall research efforts such as web page content and maintenance as well as managerial assistance with conferences, speakers, and grant reports.  The position will also include assisting with research and teaching for privacy and cybersecurity classes as well as coordinating with teaching assistants (TAs) in these classes.

This opportunity will be housed in the Law and Ethics group in the College, where we currently have research-active faculty and other academic personnel.  This position will also coordinate closely with the Georgia Tech Institute for Information Security and Privacy, a globally prominent center for cybersecurity research, and with other Colleges of the Institute as needed.

Qualifications:

A Juris Doctor (J.D.) is the preferred degree and candidates with the minimum of a Bachelor’s degree will be considered.  Applicants with zero to three years of experience and those with four to eight years of experience will likely be considered for Research Associate I and II respectively. Applicants with graduate training in a subject relevant to information technology, privacy, and security will be considered.

All candidates should have a keen interest in the subject matter of privacy and cybersecurity.  Previous teaching and/or experience with public speaking is a plus. The salary is competitive with leading research universities, and will be based on the candidate’s skills and experience. This position will be funded for at least two years, with an evaluation of performance conducted regularly for reappointment after year one.  Continuation of the position after this period will be based on funding availability.
