Etsy is seeking an experienced analyst to join our advocacy team. The analyst will join a small team dedicated to advancing Etsy’s public policy goals, and will participate in every aspect of our work, including government relations, policy research and analysis, and member outreach. We are seeking an organized self-starter who will develop and implement the systems and infrastructure needed scale our advocacy work at the local, state and federal levels. This is a full-time position based in Brooklyn, NY, and reports to the Policy Director.

About the Team

We advocate for public policies that make it easier for creative entrepreneurs on Etsy to pursue their passions, work for themselves, and succeed on their own terms. Our work is member-powered and mission-driven. We prioritize connecting Etsy sellers with the policy makers that represent them, and advocate for collaborative policy solutions that leverage the power of the public and private sector to address the challenges our sellers face. We also engage on tech policy issues from time to time, especially when they impact the startup community.

About the Job

You’ll help build Etsy’s unique, mission-driven approach to government relations from the ground up. In addition to establishing the systems we need to manage our expanding work, you will lead our efforts to track activity on our priority issues and develop Etsy’s position on new issues as they emerge. As the second member of our advocacy team, you’ll be exposed to every aspect of the our policy work, and have the opportunity to build your skills in diverse areas.

Responsibilities:

● Research and track public policy issues that could impact Etsy and our community
●Help develop Etsy’s position on a range of public policy issues, ranging from tech policy to the challenges facing micro-businesses
● Identify and conduct outreach to potential allies on relevant policy issues
● Educate Etsy employees on policy issues that impact our work and our community
● Track relationships with government officials, staff, and allies
● Help organize meetings between elected officials, Etsy staff and Etsy sellers
● Help identify Etsy sellers for various opportunities with government officials

About You

You are a detail-oriented self starter who thrives on building simple, scalable systems for managing contacts, tasks, and data. You are intellectually curious, and love to dig into policy issues and the political debate that surrounds them. Perhaps you have worked in government, at a think tank, or an advocacy organization. Either way, you understand the political dynamics that surround campaign strategy and effective government relations. You are motivated and inspired by Etsy’s mission and seller community, and willing to take on diverse tasks to advance their interests.

You will succeed in this job if you:

● Have experience working in government and public policy, and have a point of view on what makes campaigns and government relations efforts succeed
●  Have the ability to work independently, and to take on projects where the final output is not pre-determined
●  Are detail-oriented, with excellent organizational, prioritization and multi-tasking skills
● Exercise sound judgement and discretion
●  Are a team player with a can-do attitude and willingness to jump into any task
● Have a passion for Etsy’s mission and empowering our community of sellers to advocate for themselves on issues they care about
● Bonus points if you are a maker yourself or have your own creative business
