BSA is currently seeking a bright, articulate and ambitious professional to provide global policy support on technical issues related to software industry advocacy. The ideal candidate has an interest in advocacy and policy, technical training and experience (computer science/engineering), a policy background and experience working with government. The Policy Technology Advisor will work closely with BSA’s head of global policy, the policy team, member companies and government officials.

 

Key Responsibilities:

-- Understands the inner workings of new and existing Internet technologies and practices and utilizes this knowledge to create work product that describes these technologies and practices and analyzes their policy implications.
-- Apply technical training, background and knowledge as a technical specialist, advisor and member of BSA’s global policy team.
-- Work on issues and matters related to the transition to more data-centric activities.
-- In house, connect to policy issues how networks operate, cloud services, and other technical matters; advise and educate staff on relevant technical matters.

-- Stay up on and continuously track emerging industry and research developments to determine potential policy issues that they may raise.

-- Monitor technical developments relevant to software engineering, cloud services, data security, etc. and actively keep BSA staff and members informed of developments, as appropriate.

-- Identify issues and recommend strategies that will drive the development and execution of the technical aspects of policy initiatives.

-- Conduct research and participate in advocacy activities.

-- Interact with senior staff, BSA member companies, government and other officials in support of global software industry-related advocacy matters and issues that BSA is working on in collaboration with our members.

-- Communicate, coordinate and collaborate with BSA members, as appropriate, keeping them informed, engaged and aligned.

 

Professional Experience and Qualifications:

-- Computer Science, Engineering or other relevant undergraduate degree required. A law degree or an advanced degree in policy is a plus.
-- 5 – 8 years relevant work experience that includes software industry knowledge/experience.
-- Policy background strongly preferred.
-- Experience dealing with the government (federal, state or local) is a plus.
-- Demonstrates technical knowledge, experience and an understanding of the engineering process.

-- Has or is able to translate technical knowledge in to policy arguments.

--Demonstrated experience in taking an idea from conception to conclusion.

-- Proven ability to think, act and produce results independently and also work collaboratively, effectively and transparently with others to develop plans, documents and achieve desired results.

-- Ability to effectively manage time, multiple priorities, set goals and meet deadlines.
-- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
-- Patient, determined and persistent.
