Description

The Network Science Institute (NetSI) at Northeastern University focuses on the understanding of networks arising from the interplay of human behavior, socio-technical infrastructures, information diffusion and biological agents. The Executive Director, in conjunction with the Director of NetSI, will work closely with researchers, universities, US government granting agencies, and corporations and foundations in a wide range of fields. These include computer and information science, physics, sociology, communication and organizational behavior, political science and epidemiology.

 

The Executive Director, an established scientist in his/her own right, will primarily be involved in identifying new funding sources as well as facilitate and maintain current relationships with NetSI’s funding agents. They will oversee with its Director the marketing, communications and strategic planning of the Institute. The Executive Director will scientifically coordinate and manage all technical aspects of proposal writing and the management of the awarded grants. Personnel responsibilities will include interviewing and hiring faculty fellows, researchers and staff who will be involved in NetSI supported projects. The Executive Director will also be responsible for fiscal management of discretionary funds and grant awards.

 

Qualifications

Masters required. PhD preferred or equivalent experience in the field of network science, including computer and information science, physics, sociology, communication and organizational behavior, political science and epidemiology. Demonstrated experience with team building across academic disciplines. Experience in planning, coordinating, and supporting interdisciplinary research projects and infrastructure, including financial management, budget preparation and resource allocation. Demonstrated ability to identify new funding opportunities, such as: DTRA, DARPA, NSF, NIH and ARL. Must have excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as an ability to foster professional relationships across a diverse community.
