Position
GoPro is seeking a top tier candidate for a Legal Counsel/Attorney role. This position will support the transactional and contractual needs of the company’s programming and production divisions. The role will work on diverse legal and business issues that require good judgment, flexibility, and critical thinking with a practical and business-friendly approach. The successful candidate will interact with business stakeholders on a daily basis to structure transactions, negotiate and draft contracts, and provide sound legal advice on a variety of entertainment-related issues. The ideal candidate must have the ability to negotiate and draft complex inbound and outbound licensing agreements, address complex legal and business issues in creative and effective ways, and exercise sound business judgment. The Legal Counsel/Attorney will also support other teams across the company as required.
Responsibilities
-- Review, negotiate, and draft a wide variety of content licensing agreements
-- Work on complex media partnership and sales agreements
-- Review content for use on broadcast, web, and GoPro’s networks for potential copyright infringement, trademark infringement, defamation, privacy rights violations, or other issues
-- Establish policies and processes related to licensing of music, user-generated content, and GoPro original productions
-- Coordinate with producers, editors, and executives to verify and approve content and materials for various uses
-- Provide legal analysis regarding the formulation and execution of existing and/or proposed business and licensing arrangements
-- Oversee appropriate identification of assets and associated rights within the company’s digital asset management system
Requirements
-- Licensed to practice law in the State of California
-- 3-5 years of prior law firm or in-house experience working on complex entertainment matters
-- Ability to interpret laws, regulations, policies, procedures and effectively educate and communicate related impacts to colleagues and stakeholders
-- Demonstrated ability to successfully resolve complex issues
-- Experience negotiating with musicians, music labels, artist management, and performance societies
-- Flexibility and willingness to work on a wide range of complex matters with minimal supervision, often in a time-sensitive and extremely fast-paced environment
-- Strong negotiation skills and a track record of establishing strong working relationships
-- Commitment to the values, integrity and reputation of GoPro
-- Excellent oral and written communication skills
-- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage competing priorities
-- Computer proficiency; i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
-- JD and Bachelor’s Degree
