Description

POPSUGAR is looking for a full-time legal counsel to join the in-house legal team. This individual will be responsible for supporting the evolving needs of a fast-paced and high growth business. We are looking for a talented attorney with initiative and drive who can handle a high volume of varied and complex legal work. This position will report to the company's Associate General Counsel and is based in POPSUGAR's San Francisco office.

Responsibilities

  • Review, draft, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including online advertising, licensing, marketing, partnership, service, consulting and nondisclosure agreements.
  • Provide advice on legal issues relating to intellectual property rights, licensing and related activities, including reviewing marketing and promotional materials, sweepstakes and contests and creative assets; advise on best practices and strategies for managing legal risks.
  • Provide legal support to various corporate business units (Sales, HR, Marketing, Finance, IT) as needed.
  • Support the legal team with ongoing and special initiatives, including process improvement, template development and training.

Skills and Experience

  • Law degree from top tier law school with excellent academic performance; admitted to practice and active member of a state bar, preferably California.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant and recent legal practice experience in a law firm or corporate legal department with focus on intellectual property and/or commercial contracts review, drafting and negotiations.
  • Strong drafting, negotiating and writing skills.
  • Well-honed project management and organizational skills with the ability to closely manage multiple transactions and process a high volume of work in a timely and accurate manner with a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound business and legal decisions under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent ability to problem solve in an efficient, business-friendly, creative manner.
  • Collaborative, team oriented approach to working with colleagues and others in the organization.
  • Exceptionally strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to tailor communication style to diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge in online media, entertainment, advertising (including FTC guidelines and regulations, IAB standards), and privacy matters a plus.
