Case Western Reserve University, School of Law, has a dynamic and nationally recognized Experiential Education curriculum. We are excited to add First Amendment Law and the Arts to our offerings. To support this expansion, we are hiring a First Amendment Law and the Arts Fellow, starting immediately. This is a one-year fellowship position, with possible renewal for an additional year depending on funding. The 12-month salary will be $60,000, with some health benefits.The Fellow will work with the Director of the Spangenberg Center and the Director of the Kramer Law Clinic Center. The primary role of the First Amendment Law and the Arts Fellow is to provide supervision and training for law students and to work on cases involving First Amendment protections with a particular, although not exclusive, focus on intellectual property issues. The successful candidate will engage in activities that include, but are not limited to the following:

-- Help establish a Cleveland-based regional hub for directing First Amendment advocacy in the Midwest, through formalized and meaningful institutional relationships with regional organizations and individuals.
-- Identify the most acute areas of regional need for First Amendment advocacy in the public interest, with a focus on intellectual property and freedom of expression issues that enhance socially impactful cultural expression and facilitate civic participation, and develop a specific First Amendment advocacy profile keyed to those needs.
-- Engage in discrete advocacy projects that advance First Amendment values in the public interest.
-- Develop the academic and pedagogical framework necessary to deepen and focus sustained student involvement, through clinical and classroom instruction. Initially this work will be through the lab and practicum in First Amendment and the Arts -- Law with the ultimate goal of creating an in-house clinical offering.
-- Participate in academic initiatives, and the knitting together of a regional professional network that will help student participants leverage their experiential learning and continue their good works in the region after graduation when they enter practice.
-- Case and project supervision and coverage of course and clinical offerings in First Amendment and the Arts Law.

The Fellow will engage in the above activities under the direction and faculty supervision of Aaron Perzanowski in the School of Law at Case Western Reserve University. The Fellow will also join the Kramer Law Clinic faculty and is expected to engage in activities as directed by the Director of the Clinical Program.

Mandatory qualifications:

-- A J.D. degree from an approved, ABA accredited school, with a record of high academic achievement.
-- Admission to the bar in Ohio, potential to be admitted into Pennsylvania and/or Indiana.
-- Litigation experience.
-- Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred qualifications:

-- Experience with First Amendment Law cases; or
-- Experience with intellectual property issues; or
-- Experience in a clinical teaching setting
