Authors Alliance is looking to hire a Communications and Operations Manager who will have responsibility for helping to refine and communicate the organization’s message across a number of media, keeping track of its projects and deadlines, and managing its books and budget. Successful candidates will be passionate about the Authors Alliance mission, ready to accept an expanding role as the organization grows, and prepared for very occasional travel.

Authors Alliance is a Berkeley, California-based non-profit. We work to further the public interest in facilitating widespread access to works of authorship by assisting and representing authors who want to disseminate their works of knowledge and products of imagination broadly. We provide information and tools designed to help authors better understand and manage key legal, technological, and institutional aspects of authorship in the digital age. We are a voice for authors in discussions about public and institutional policies that might promote or inhibit the broad dissemination they seek. For more information, visit authorsalliance.org.

Required Qualifications

-- Bachelor’s degree or higher
-- Demonstrated writing and communications skills
-- Project management skills and experience
-- Ability and willingness to develop new skills
-- Ability to tailor and professionally deliver communications to diverse audiences, including: varied authorial communities, donors, and collaborators.

Preferred Qualifications

-- Familiarity with contemporary issues in authorship, publishing, and copyright law (such as fair use, open access, attribution, and mass digitization)
-- Experience with basic web development/maintenance 
-- Experience blogging and with blogging software
-- Design skills/experience with Adobe Creative Suite
-- Experience with accounting software

Salary and Benefits

Starting salary of $50,000-$60,000/year, depending on experience. Health benefits provided.
