Description

Position Overview

The Center for Information, Technology, and Public Life (CITAP) is a research center dedicated to understanding the growing impact of the internet, social media, and other forms of digital information sharing in the context of the people who design, use, and govern them. CITAP conducts original research that illuminates how people, technology, and power intersect. Our topics of study include: how inequalities are coded into new technology systems, networked communities and how people come together online, platform governance, and identity and disinformation. We take a holistic approach grounded in history, society, culture, and politics to the study of technology platforms and information systems.

This is a one-year fellowship co-hosted by the Center for Information, Technology, and Public Life (CITAP) and the Center for Media Law and Policy (CMLP). The Technology & Public Life Policy Fellow will serve as a communicator between academic researchers and policymakers (both in government and within technology platforms). The research from CITAP and CMLP will serve as a major source of inputs for the policy fellow’s translational work. As such, the policy fellow is expected to attend research meetings, read our work, and engage closely with us in nominating the kinds of findings and topics to explore more fully.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree, e.g., JD or PhD.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, e.g., clear memos and public-facing writing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A preference for a candidate with a depth of experience in either policy or academic research and some experience with the other.
  • Effective time management skills, e.g., knowing when to ask questions as well as the ability to come into our team as a strong independent contributor.
  • Event management skills, e.g., thoughtfully organizing and executing convenings.
