The UNC Center for Media Law and Policy will co-sponsor the 9th annual First Amendment Law Review symposium, Citizens United and the First Amendment, on Oct. 8.

A keynote speech will be delivered by noted First Amendment attorney Floyd Abrams, who argued before the U.S. Supreme Court in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission earlier this year. In Citizens United, the Court held that corporate funding of independent political broadcasts in candidate elections cannot be limited under the First Amendment.

The First Amendment Law Review is published by students in the UNC School of Law.

The symposium will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Pleasants Family Assembly Room in Wilson Library on the UNC-CH campus. The event is free for Carolina students, faculty and staff. For others the cost is $30, or $5 for students from other schools. Lunch is provided.

Members of the N.C. State Bar may be able to earn Continuing Legal Education (CLE) hours by contacting the bar.
