On January 28, the UNC Media Law Society and the Center for Media Law & Policy will host an extended discussion about the Supreme Court’s recent decision in TikTok, Inc. v. Garland. The nine-month legal battle between ByteDance—the Chinese company that owns TikTok—and the United States government ended in a win for the government on January 17, 2025, when the US Supreme Court upheld the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act.
The conversation will be led by Mary-Rose Papandrea, Samuel Ashe Distinguished Professor of Constitutional Law at the UNC School of Law, who will break down the facts, arguments, and final opinion in TikTok v. Garland.
Come learn about the case everyone is asking you about! Lunch will be provided.
