Description

The School of Journalism at Northeastern University seeks a leading journalist and scholar with
multimedia skills whose research and work inform and advance current trends in visual journalism, social
media and digital storytelling. Candidates must have the ability to teach across disciplines and have an
established record of work and/or scholarship in the area of visual/digital journalism. This position will be
filled at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The position requires the successful candidate to do
scholarly research as well as teach graduate and undergraduate students. The appointment will be in
the School of Journalism but will also involve working with the Department of Art + Design and the
Creative Industries Program in the College of Arts, Media and Design. Areas of expertise may include,
but are not limited to, digital storytelling techniques, photojournalism, audio and video, design, interactive
media, and social media.The successful candidate will teach journalism, design and creative industries students about visual
literacy and storytelling, the impact of digital media on the profession, and multimedia skills. He or she
will also contribute to curriculum development at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The candidate is expected to have a broad understanding of accepted standards of good journalism
practice and be able to teach them in the practice and theory of visual/digital media. The candidate must
have a well-developed research project and be able to present a detailed proposal.

QualificationsThe successful candidate must hold a master's degree or higher in journalism or related field. He or she
must also have considerable professional experience and/or scholarship in visual/digital journalism.
