The School of Journalism and Mass Communication invites nominations and applications for one full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor. Appointment will be 100%-time over the nine-month academic year (late-August to late-May). This is a probationary (tenure-track) faculty appointment at the rank of assistant professor leading to the possible conferral of indefinite tenure. Salary is competitive.

We are seeking an outstanding scholar with research and teaching interests in communication law. 

Qualifications

Required: Ph.D. or J.D. with MA in mass communication-related academic field or professional media experience. 

Successful candidates for this position will show outstanding promise of sustaining a vigorous program of original research and publication with potential for external funding, and show promise of excellence in graduate level teaching and advising (both M.A. and Ph.D.). They should demonstrate the capacity and commitment to teach undergraduate and graduate academic courses in the area of media law. Depending on their background and interests, successful candidates will have opportunities to teach courses related to strategic communications, journalism, electronic media or other topics in mass communication studies represented in the School’s curriculum. 

Candidates will be evaluated according to a) overall quality of their academic preparation and scholarly work, b) relevance of their scholarly research to the school’s academic priorities and fields of inquiry, c) evidence of commitment to teaching and skills as a teacher, and d) strength of recommendations. 

About the Position

Faculty in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication in the College of Liberal Arts are expected to maintain an active research program, teach and advise undergraduate and graduate students, and contribute service appropriate for the rank of appointment to the department, college, University, and profession.
