With the aim of assisting the international harmonization, the IIP has been entrusted by the Japan Patent Office (JPO) to provide the opportunities for overseas researchers in the field of industrial property right to carry out their research activities in Japan.

The following is the purpose of the program.

In order to promote the design and establishment of an appropriate industrial property right system in Japan, it is necessary to work with many researchers who are well acquainted with the industrial property right system in Japan and other countries. This can be accomplished by encouraging those who will lead the world in the future to carry out extensive research on subjects concerning the necessary international harmonization or improvement of the industrial property right system for the medium term.

With this aim and as part of the Industrial Property Research Promotion Project entrusted by the Japan Patent Office, our institute will conduct the Researchers Invitation Program, in which we will invite foreign researchers in the field of industrial property rights to engage in research on subjects necessary for international harmonization of the industrial property right system

We would like to ask you to introduce this program to appropriate researchers as candidates of Invited Researchers who are applicable mainly to the following conditions. This program is intended not only for post-doctoral researchers, but also professor class researchers such as taking a sabbatical.

1. A researcher who has interest in Japanese industrial property right system and its analysis, and shall be engaged in research in Japan on subjects related to the industrial property rights system of which would require international harmonization or improvement in the medium term.

2. A researcher who is willing to conduct active discussions with Japanese researchers.
3. A researcher who has a suitable language skill in either English or Japanese to have daily

communications with other researchers and the IIP staff.
