Description

Senior Advocate (International), Technology and Human Rights, Berlin

Amnesty International is recruiting for a new full-time Senior Advocate position, based in Berlin (Germany), for our growing international work on technology and human rights.

We believe in a free, open and secure Internet. We want to protect the ideals on which the Internet grew: privacy, freedom of expression, access to knowledge and participation. And we are determined to identify and address new threats to human rights in the digital age.

As part of our new technology and human rights hub co-located in Berlin and London, you will be working to combat unlawful surveillance, help to protect activists against digital threats, uncover evidence of government and corporate abuses, advocate for stronger internet governance and campaign for privacy and freedom of expression online. You will be working at the cutting edge of human rights, using Amnesty’s campaigning, communications and research expertise to work on the way Human Rights can be secured in the Digital Age. You will be working closely with Amnesty sections across the globe and Amnesty’s international network of activists to tackle human rights issues present and future.

As Senior Advocate on technology and human rights, you will develop, coordinate and execute Amnesty´s international advocacy strategies on technology and human rights issues. You will identify strategic opportunities for intervention and represent Amnesty at relevant international meetings, conferences and forums, advancing the organization's human rights positions and fostering partnerships with like-minded organizations and individuals.

ABOUT AMNESTY:

Our aim is simple: an end to human rights abuses. Independent, international and influential, we campaign for justice, fairness, freedom and truth wherever they're denied. Already our network of almost three million members and supporters is making a difference in 150 countries. And whether we're applying pressure through powerful research or direct lobbying, mass demonstrations or online campaigning, we're all inspired by hope for a better world. One where human rights are respected and protected by everyone, everywhere.

While the post will be part of the international team and using English as a working language, candidates will be required to develop a basic understanding of German as the working language of the hiring local Amnesty section.

The position is a two year fixed-term contract, with the aim of a long-term employment. This post is based in Berlin, Germany, and employed by the German section of Amnesty International.

Deadline for applications is 3 January 2016. Interviews will take place at the end of January in Berlin.
