Facebook seeks a highly motivated, well organized, team player to join our growing policy team in Europe. The position will focus data protection and privacy legislation, primarily in Europe, and EMEA. The ideal candidate has a strong background in privacy and data protection and is comfortable working on technology policy issues. Candidates should be excellent writers, with strong experience in developing and drafting comments and other materials for regulators, policymakers and other relevant stakeholders. Candidates also should be excellent public speakers. This is a great opportunity to work on novel public policy issues in an exciting environment. This position is planned to be based in Dublin, Ireland (but other locations are negotiable) and reports to the Director for Privacy Policy, Europe.

Responsibilities

-- Act as direct support to the Director for Privacy Policy, Europe, in working closely with a cross-functional global team on data protection and privacy policy issues across EU, Turkey, Middle East and Africa
-- Analyse legislative and regulatory proposals concerning privacy, data protection, data security and other related technology issues
-- Advise on the privacy implications of new products and features in the EMEA region, especially in light of the new European legal framework
-- Work with policy team to draft position papers, briefing materials, and related documents
-- Actively engage with regulators, policymakers and other third parties and build robust relationships
-- Represent Facebook at meetings and conferences

Requirements

-- Proven successful track record of leading privacy and technology policy issues
-- Strong analytical and writing skills
-- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to make sound judgments under tight deadlines
-- Strong knowledge of and interest in emerging technologies and devices and of Facebook products and platform
-- Strong and current knowledge of data protection and privacy legislative and policy issues
-- Demonstrated ability to find pragmatic and creative solution to business issues and provide concise and business-focused advice
-- High degree of flexibility and willingness to work on a wide variety of legal and policy questions
-- Excellent academic credentials, Law Degree preferred
-- Experience in operational privacy, senior management position preferred
-- Privacy certification (e.g. CIPP or CIPM or similar) a plus
-- Working with a web 2.0 or social networking company on privacy issues a plus
-- Candidates need to include 3 – 4 links to articles/videos/media interviews which demonstrate their track record in this field
