----------
The Lawfare Student Contributor Program is open to current students pursuing a graduate degree. Generally, participants are in law school (2Ls, 3Ls, LLMs, SJDs, or foreign equivalents; the program is not open to first-year/1L students). Graduate students in other relevant fields will also be considered.
Student contributions should follow Lawfare guidelines, especially the principles set forth in this article: https://www.lawfareblog.com/successful-student-online-legal-writing. In particular, students should not submit opinion pieces. Ideal articles are analytical, in-depth, and relatively narrow in scope (e.g., summarizing court rulings, IG reports, or congressional hearings).
Students may contribute in a variety of ways. Some projects will involve quick turnaround times (e.g., when the topic relates to recent developments in the news); others will be less time-sensitive (e.g., providing a round-up of recent litigation on a particular topic). Generally speaking, there are three categories of projects:
(1) Articles relating to news events.
(2) Research assistance or co-authoring with a regular Lawfare contributor.
(3) Student pitches for original content.
We encourage students to discuss their work with professors whenever possible.
There is no minimum time commitment required; expected hours will vary depending on the type of contribution. Students must be mindful of deadlines when they are set, particularly when the contribution relates to news events.
All student articles will be accompanied by the author's bio. To be eligible to be listed as a Student Contributor on our website as well, students must author, co-author, or provide substantial research assistance for at least two articles.
Thank you for your interest in Lawfare.
