Description

Description:

The Future of Privacy Forum is hiring a full-time Policy Counsel for Global Privacy.

We are looking for an excellent communicator and writer who is passionate about furthering the debate on privacy and data protection law globally.

This role is expected to track developments in global privacy and data protection law, to analyze existing laws and new legislative proposals, as well as relevant public policies around the world at supranational and national levels, to identify cross-currents and trends and to anticipate what topics will set the global privacy agenda in the short, medium and long terms. The role will report to the Senior Counsel for Global Privacy and will support their work.

In particular, the Policy Counsel for Global Privacy will be expected to:

  • Conduct comparative studies on specific concepts essential to privacy and data protection law.
  • Draft summaries of events, policy briefs, blogs, reports and white papers.
  • Communicate internally with other FPF teams to identify areas where a global privacy perspective is valuable for particular work streams and cooperate on joint projects.
  • Maintain a good working relationship and develop joint projects with FPF Europe, the Israel Tech Policy Institute, and other offices or FPF Senior Fellows around the world.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with FPF partner organizations around the world.
  • Moderate and speak in panels or webinars on relevant topics.
  • Support the organization of events.
  • Communicate regularly with FPF stakeholders, including regulators, civil society, academics, CPOs, DPOs and law firms.

Qualifications:

Ideally, the candidate has a minimum of 3 years relevant experience working on researching or applying privacy and data protection law, has a good understanding of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation, is a Law graduate (both US and foreign law degrees will be considered) who has studied Comparative Law, and can proficiently work in at least one other language in addition to English.

This position is based in the United States and only individuals who have the right to work in the US should apply. While we have a preference for the ideal candidate to be based in Washington DC or in Ann Arbor/Detroit, Michigan, this position is currently virtual/remote and FPF will consider full-time remote candidates.

FPF knows that having a diverse workforce is essential to our work. We do not discriminate against any candidate based on their race, color, religion, national origin, sex, gender identity or expression, physical or mental disability, pregnancy or age.

Salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits include excellent health, dental and vision coverage, three weeks of vacation plus the week between Christmas and New Year’s, Juneteenth and all federal holidays.

Application:

Interested applicants can view the posting here.

Please send your application to hr@fpf.org, with the subject line “Policy Counsel for Global Privacy”. To be considered, your application should include:

  1. Your resume,
  2. One previously published or completed writing sample, and
  3. A separate one page document (maximum one page) that answers briefly the question: What is one of the most significant recent global privacy law development and why?

Applications should be sent before March 31st, but they will be considered on a rolling basis.
