Berkeley Law School plans to hire a fellow to conduct research on the legal and policy infrastructure that will best support the interests of academics and other authors whose primary motivation in creating original works of authorship is to promote dissemination of knowledge. The Copyright Research Fellow will work under the supervision of Berkeley Law Professors Pamela Samuelson and Molly Van Houweling and will focus on a variety of projects that will include:
• Doing research to develop the intellectual foundation for legal and policy changes in copyright law needed to support the interests of authors whose primary motivations in creating works of authorship are to share the knowledge embodied in their works with the public.
• Drafting model legislation as well as researching and writing articles, white papers, friend of the court briefs, or other projects of publishable quality on these subjects.
• Organizing and convening programmatic events, including meetings, workshops, and conferences to gather input, disseminate ideas and research efforts, and build a broad-based coalition to support these legal and policy efforts.
• Assessing university open access policies for scholarly works.

This will be a very exciting position as it will involve not only research and writing, but also convening events to discuss policy recommendations and speaking at events in a variety of venues.
