The Berkeley Center for Law & Technology (BCLT) is seeking to hire an Asia IP Project Director.

The Berkeley Center for Law & Technology is the focal point at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law for teaching, research, and student activities on issues at the intersection of law and technology. BCLT’s programs encompass the full range of technology law, including intellectual property, privacy, cybercrime and cybersecurity, biotech, entertainment law, and telecommunications regulation.

The Asia IP Project Director will work with BCLT faculty and the BCLT Executive Director to design and administer the BCLT Asia IP Project as an independent program with administrative and programmatic responsibility. Travel is required.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Design and administer the BCLT Asia IP Project as an independent program with administrative and programmatic responsibility.

• Under the supervision of BCLT faculty and the BCLT Executive Director, research and write articles or reports on IP issues, including pieces directed at audiences beyond academia;

• Enhance existing, and develop new, collaborative relationships with Chinese institutions and other outside constituencies;

• Working with BCLT faculty and staff, organizing workshops, conferences, talks, and meetings with judges, lawyers, policymakers, and industry representatives;

• Collaborate with BCLT faculty, the BCLT Executive Director, and with J.D. and Ph.D. students working on related projects;

• Identify and pursue funding opportunities and revenue streams. Establish the program budget, manage financial resources, and participate in accounting processes to support financial infrastructure of program.

Minimum Qualifications Required (at time of application):

• Candidate must hold a J.D. degree or equivalent degree;

• Admission to practice law in at least one state (California Bar not required).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Background and experience in intellectual property law and international trade.

• Knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and/or financial principles and practices.

• Advanced oral and written communication skills.

• Fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese.

• Advanced ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.

• Advanced interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.

• Advanced ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers.
