Description

Interested in doing legal work this summer on copyright, idea submission, defamation, privacy, employment issues, and entertainment contracts for Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp., Fox Television Stations, Inc., and Fox Sports, among other Fox companies? Curious about working at an in-house Hollywood studio and the studio’s outside law firms? Committed to diversity in the legal profession? First-year law students interested in this type of work are invited to apply for the Summer 2014 Diversity Fellowship Program in Los Angeles. This paid summer program is the result of a partnership between the Fox in-house legal department and four law firms: Alston & Bird, Greenberg Traurig, Hogan Lovells, and Jenner & Block. Candidates must be currently enrolled as first year students at an accredited law school, with a focus on candidates from Southern California law schools.

During this 10-week program, the Fellows will spend their first five weeks in one of the participating law firms’ summer associate programs in downtown Los Angeles or Century City, and their last five weeks working with in-house lawyers at Fox Group Legal in Century City. Fellows will be exposed to a variety of work assignments from different practice areas, including intellectual property, employment law and general litigation. The Fellows will be paid a stipend of no less than $1,500 per week for the 10-week duration of the Fellowship. The program will provides law students with the rare opportunity to spend their first-year summer working both at an in-house Hollywood studio legal department and at a major law firm. The Fellowship also provides career mentoring for law students early in their career.

Applicants should email a single .pdf file with the title and subject line listing the candidate’s name (last name then first name) containing a resume, cover letter, undergraduate transcript, all available law school grades or transcripts, and the contact information for one law school faculty member as a reference. The cover letter should describe the applicant’s experience with and commitment to diversity (including but not limited to diversity in the context of race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexual orientation and identity, religion and disability), and in particular, describe how their career will enhance diversity in the legal profession. Cover letters should be no more than 500 words. The cover letter should also indicate whether the candidate seeks consideration for a Fellowship at all four firms, or only selected law firms. Fox and the law firms will conduct interviews in Los Angeles in late February.

The deadline to apply is January 19, 2014. Applications should be directed via e-mail to FGLFellowship@fox.com with the subject line “Diversity Fellowship Application.”
