The UNC Center for Media Law and Policy is a forum for study and debate about the important media law and policy issues facing North Carolina and the nation. The center’s goal is to enhance the discussion of media law and policy issues by bringing together people who represent a diversity of informed views.
The UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication and the UNC School of Law developed the center in 2004.
The center hosts a variety of speakers from around the world. Center events range from formal lectures to intimate dinners, from moderated debates to classroom visits. Students, faculty and scholars from a variety of disciplines, as well as lawmakers, attorneys, journalists and the public attend the center's events.

Miriam Nisbet, director of the Office of Government Information Services at the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration, will be the keynote speaker at the AEJMC Southeast Colloquium. OGIS is the new FOIA policy office and provides mediation services to resolve disputes between FOIA requesters and administrative agencies.

| | Nine Students to Present Media Law & Policy Papers at AEJMC SE Colloquium |
| Nine UNC graduate students were selected to present their research papers in the law and policy division of the 2010 Southeast Colloquium for the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Two recent UNC graduates will present their faculty research papers. Papers are selected for presentation through a process of blind review. The Southeast Colloquium will be held March 11-13 in Chapel Hill. For more information on the conference, click here. |
| | Wade Hargrove Honored Friends and colleagues of attorney Wade Hargrove recently established an annual media law colloquium in his honor. More than $200,000 was raised for the Wade H. Hargrove Communications Law and Policy Colloquium. Hargrove, a partner with Brooks Pierce in Raleigh, has been NCAB executive director and general counsel for more than 39 years, NCCTA general counsel for 30 years and Hearst communications regulatory counsel for 20 years. He has supported the UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication and the UNC School of Law as an adviser, volunteer and donor. |
