Facebook seeks a highly motivated and well organized leader to join our growing privacy policy team in EMEA. This position will report into the Global Deputy Chief Privacy Officer and play a major role in shaping and leading Facebook’s international privacy policy work. The role will be responsible for helping to lead Facebook’s privacy and data strategy in Europe, the Middle-East and Africa, and engaging with policy-makers and regulators across the region.

The ideal candidate has a strong professional background in privacy and data protection, and will be comfortable working on all major technology policy issues. They will have established a strong reputation and profile in this field among their industry peers and with critical stakeholders, such as Data Protection Authorities.

They will also have demonstrated leadership and have experience in working across multiple functions to articulate, coordinate and drive agreed strategies.

Candidates should be excellent communicators. They will be accomplished public speakers and have a proven track record of public engagements on relevant topics. They will also be excellent writers, capable of producing impactful written communications, as well as demonstrated ability in developing positions and drafting comments and other materials for global regulators and policymakers.

Responsibilities

-- Work closely with Facebook’s EMEA leadership team to guide the company’s policy strategy and engagement
-- Helping to lead a cross-functional team of privacy and policy experts within Facebook’s family of companies to direct the company’s strategy and have positive impact with Facebook’s external stakeholders
-- Initiate and lead on priority projects across EMEA in coordination with other members of the privacy policy team
-- Working cross-functionally to analyze legislative and regulatory proposals concerning privacy, data protection and other technology issues and their policy-related impact on the Facebook family of companies’ products and business models
-- Work with the wider policy and communication teams to create position papers, briefing materials, and related documents
-- Initiate and lead Facebook’s engagement with policymakers and other external stakeholders and represent the Facebook family of companies’ interests and points of view at relevant meetings, events and conferences

Requirements

-- At least 10 years relevant working experience and proven track record of dealing with major privacy and technology policy issues - actual experience working with web or social networking companies on privacy policy issues a plus
-- Robust network of personal contacts in relevant private and public institutions, NGOs and other privacy policy stakeholders
-- Excellent analytical and writing skills together with sound strategic and tactical understanding of handling current policy issues
-- Detailed knowledge of regulatory and legislative processes across the European region, at national and EU institutional level
-- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to make sound judgments under tight deadlines
-- Strong knowledge of and interest in emerging technologies and their potential social and economic impacts
-- Good knowledge of Facebook’s and other internet providers’ business models, products and platforms
-- Demonstrated ability to find pragmatic and creative solution to business issues and provide concise and business-focused advice
-- High degree of flexibility and willingness to work on a wide variety of legal and policy related questions
-- Excellent academic credentials - advanced degrees preferred
