Description

Suffolk Law School is committed to providing a diverse student body with the opportunity to study law. That commitment has yielded some of the nation’s most distinguished legal professionals.

Suffolk University Law School's Intellectual Property & Entrepreneurship Clinic (“IPEC”) is seeking an attorney with a minimum of three years experience with intellectual property transactions and/or litigation and a strong interest in working with and teaching students.

The Intellectual Property & Entrepreneurship Clinic (“IPEC”) was initiated in 2012 to augment Suffolk Law’s clinical offerings and complement the Intellectual Property Law Concentration. For the past several years, Suffolk’s Intellectual Property Concentration and Clinical Programs have been nationally ranked as some of the leading programs of their type in the country.

The IPEC provides pro bono legal assistance on an extensive range of intellectual property and business law issues. Clients include entrepreneurs, nonprofits, inventors, artists, authors, filmmakers, designers and musicians. The clinic provides Suffolk students with the hands-on, practical experience needed to navigate the rapidly evolving fields of intellectual property and entrepreneurship while providing free legal and business consultation services for underserved communities.

The clinic is a full-year, 8-credit program with 8 students in their final year of law school.  In addition to supervising students on legal representation, the Practitioner in Residence will teach a weekly seminar covering substantive areas of intellectual property law, emerging topics in intellectual property law policy, basic lawyering skills, and professional responsibility.

The successful applicant will continue the work of the IPEC, supervising students on on-going and new cases and, with the assistance of Clinical Faculty, design and implement a curriculum for the weekly seminar.

This position requires an earned juris doctorate degree from an accredited law school.  Must be a member in good standing of a state bar and qualified to represent clients before the United States Copyright Office and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  At least three years of experience with intellectual property transactions and/or litigation required. Strong communication; computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook); a strong interest in clinical/experiential learning as well as a commitment to student learning is required.  Teaching experience preferred.

This is a one-year appointment available immediately to begin June 1 or soon thereafter. The opportunity to extend this appointment may be available.

Required Application Documents: Cover letter, Resume or CV, List of three references.  Optional Application Documents: Teaching Evaluations (if applicable)
