Description

Spider is a national centre for ICT for development, ”ICT4D”, established in 2004 with core funding from the Swedish development agency Sida. The purpose of the Centre is to create a deeper understanding for the role of ICT as a productive instrument in developing countries and to increase Swedish researcher’s engagement in concrete projects in these countries. Today Spider is a well-known ICT4D actor with 17 projects in five countries.

Stockholm University with the Department of Computer and Systems Sciences (DSV) in Kista is the administrative host of the Centre. Operations are led by a board with academic, industry and civil society representatives. Spider’s focus areas are democracy, education and health. Currently, the centre has seven employees and an annual budget of about 17 MSEK.

We are now looking for a Director to run and develop the Centre, within the framework set by the board. Important tasks, in addition to handling on-going projects, is to work for a continued close cooperation with Sida, an increased engagement from Swedish universities and other stakeholders, to create new external funding, e.g. from the EU or other international donors and to strengthen Spider’s brand.

We are looking for someone with

  • A thorough understanding and experience of development cooperation and work in developing countries.
  • Documented skills in leadership, project management and development cooperation.
  • Very good understanding of how ICT promotes development.
  • Good understanding of the academic environment, ideally through research within the field of ICT.
  • Excellence in both written and spoken English.
  • Willingness to travel.

Terms of employment
The position is full-time and temporary to 2014-12-31 with the possibility of permanent employment after evaluation and if funds are available.
