Description

he Electronic Frontier Foundation is looking for a superstar criminal defense attorney to join our legal team. Responsibilities will include writing amicus briefs and other litigation, public speaking, blogging and other social media writing, media appearances, consulting on legislative and regulatory matters related to technology and the public interest, and maintaining and expanding EFF’s relationships with the national criminal defense community. The position does not include significant direct representation. However, there may be opportunities to partner with outside defense counsel on cases that would set important precedents in our issue areas.

The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of criminal litigation experience, including experience managing cases, overall case strategy, and day-to-day projects and deadlines. Candidates must have excellent writing and analytical skills and an interest in being part of a team of highly motivated lawyers and activists working collaboratively in a hard-working nonprofit environment. The attorney will be our main criminal law expert on staff, so the candidate must be self-directed, self-motivated and focused. Tech savviness and a familiarity with issues at the intersection of technology and the public interest is strongly preferred, and the ideal candidate will have an expertise in Fourth Amendment issues, especially those issues involving emerging technologies, and a demonstrated interest in civil liberties law, particularly privacy and free speech. In-depth knowledge of and experience with the Electronic Communications Privacy Act and the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act are a big plus.

This position is based in San Francisco. Because we are highly collaborative and value our in-person time together, applicants seeking to work remotely on a full-time basis will not be considered.

Interested applicants should submit a detailed cover letter explaining their interest in EFF and this particular job, a resume, brief writing sample, and at list of at least three professional references all as one pdf in the resume field here (please ignore the cover letter field).
