Description

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is now accepting applications for its 2017-19 Frank Stanton Fellowship. Applicants should be recent law school graduates or law students who will be graduating this Spring and have an interest in developing an expertise in First Amendment issues as they relate to new technologies.

The fellow will work side—by-side EFF’s staff attorneys for two years on our active civil liberties litigation docket with the goal of developing a deep grounding in cutting-edge free speech law, and related issues in privacy and technology law. Non-litigation responsibilities may include advocacy, public speaking, blogging, media appearances, and work on legislative and regulatory matters related to surveillance and law enforcement. The fellow will not work on EFF’s Intellectual Property docket.

Qualified candidates must be attending or have attended a United States law school and either be licensed to practice law in the US or planning to take a US state bar exam this summer. Qualified candidates must have a strong interest and passion for defending freedom of speech and privacy. Strong writing and analytical skills, as well as the ability to be self-motivated and focused, are essential. Candidates should have good communication skills and an interest in working with a team of highly motivated lawyers and activists in a hard-working nonprofit environment. Tech savviness and a familiarity with high tech public interest issues is preferred, but not required.

This position is based in San Francisco. The duration of the fellowship is 24 months and is non-renewable. Start date is negotiable but ideally no later than September 2017.
