Would you like to be Pinkie Pie or Optimus Prime’s attorney? Hasbro is looking for an attorney with 2-6 years of experience who would like to work in a fast-paced, collegial environment for one of the world’s most ethical companies (Ethisphere.com) and a leading branded-entertainment company. This position will support both the global brand marketing group as well as the licensing team.

The successful candidate will possess both transactional and intellectual property experience. This role requires a robust background in contract drafting, as well as strong negotiation skills, superior analytical and organizational abilities, creative and pragmatic problem-solving approaches and a willingness to stay abreast of legal developments in advertising law, licensing and intellectual property. Strong interpersonal skills, a sense of humor and the ability to work with other department members and company clients in a high-energy, high-volume, team-oriented environment are a must.

JOB DUTIES

- Provide legal support for all aspects of branded product lines, from design and development, concept acquisition, and packaging to marketing and advertising.
- Counsel clients on a broad range of legal issues, including intellectual property, licensing, marketing, advertising, promotions, social media, digital media, regulatory/compliance matters and contract interpretation.
- Negotiate and draft a variety of contracts, including in-licenses with entertainment companies, consulting agreements, development agreements, marketing and promotion agreements, talent and music rights agreements and confidentiality agreements.
- Review and give advice on product development, packaging, and all manner of advertising and marketing materials, including television commercials, print ads, digital media campaigns, contests, sweepstakes and other promotions.
- Provide legal support for Hasbro’s Global Brand Licensing & Publishing Group business unit by negotiating and drafting a variety of out-license agreements for third party uses of Hasbro’s intellectual property rights, including in connection with a wide variety of consumer products, retail venues, food/beverage service companies, publishing and live entertainment events.
- Work directly with senior management in connection with legal issues, priorities and anticipate follow-up needs.
- Partner with clients to proactively identify and further business strategies in transactions.
- Provide client education and training on relevant legal topics.
- Work with other attorneys and paralegals on group/departmental and/or ad hoc projects as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Training Required:
- J.D. from accredited law school, excellent academic credentials.
- Bar membership in good standing.
- 2-6 years of relevant experience in a law firm and in-house law department

Key Skills:
- Experience negotiating and drafting a variety of intellectual property transactions.
- A significant plus is licensing experience, whether representing licensors or licensees, and whether involving characters, brands, copyrights, trademarks, patents, technology, hardware and/or software.
- Also a plus is consumer products related marketing and advertising law experience.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills and people skills.
- Ability to engage in practical evaluations and explanations of risks and engage in collaborative problem-solving.

Understanding of intellectual property laws and issues, especially copyright, trademark and rights of publicity (but patent also a plus).

Ability to work effectively with
- Flexibility and willingness to seek out and learn new technologies, practice management improvements and to implement knowledge-sharing practices.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize substantial and diverse workload and complete tasks within deadlines.
