INTERNSHIP OBJECTIVE:
To provide professional development opportunities to an individual through her/his support of the Department of Government Affairs and their exposure to a breadth of issues including federal legislative issues, matters involving agencies and implementation of a government relations initiative.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
-- Assist the Vice-President of Government Affairs and Senior Director of Government Affairs in their duties of providing strategic government affairs advice to Management and providing information to members of Congress and other officials.
-- Conduct research and analysis, prepare advocacy materials; draft documents; collaborate with internal communications and other departments; participate in internal meetings.
-- Otherwise assist the government and regulatory affairs staff in the office.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/MAJOR/GPA:
-- Must have completed at least two years of college and must be currently enrolled in school (undergraduate or graduate) or have completed a degree within the past twelve months;
-- Political science, Communications, Law or similar background.
-- Hill or agency experience a plus

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/QUALITIES:
-- Excellent research and writing skills;
-- Excellent verbal communication skills;
-- A good grasp of the federal legislative process, including appropriations, authorization and the budget;
-- Familiarity with or interest in budget, education or telecommunications policy, including a knowledge of the structure of public broadcasting and the role of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting;
-- Ability to handle complex and challenging assignments with short turnaround deadlines;
-- Proficiency with general computer applications and research tools is required.

Outgoing, curious, detail-oriented, self-starter

SKILLS THE INTERN MIGHT GAIN:
The candidate will gain a strong understanding of a wide variety of legislative, regulatory and public media issues

DEPARTMENT: Government Affairs
SALARY: $12.00/hour (undergrads and recent grads) and $15.00/hour (graduate students)
TIME COMMITMENT: 35-40 hours/week, May - August 2015
