The School of Journalism and Mass Communication and School of Law at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill offer a dual-degree program in mass communication law.  The dual degree program provides a course of study for students interested in pursuing graduate studies in law, and journalism and mass communication. The program is intended for students with a variety of goals including those who plan to practice media or intellectual property law, pursue academic careers in law and mass communication fields, pursue a Ph.D. degree in a related field or perhaps plan to pursue a career in journalism or strategic communication with a law-related emphasis.  For more information, see our “for students” page.

We will be holding an information session at 5:00 p.m. on September 16 in the Halls of Fame room in Carroll Hall.  You’ll get a chance to meet the faculty who teach in this program and some of our current dual degree students.

  • M.A./J.D. students work with advisers in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and School of Law to create a unique program of required and elective courses that satisfies the degree requirements for both schools and fits each student’s particular interests.
